Chronicles and Pamphlets: Analysis of Primary Sources about Vlad Țepeș-Dracula
The Dracula myth was born not only from folklore, but also from documents. The primary sources about the reign of Vlad Țepeș, written in the 15th century, offer contradictory images: from a bloody tyrant (in German pamphlets) to harsh but fair defender (in the Slavonic chronicles). This article critically analyzes the most important historical sources that formed the basis for the construction of the legend.
